About This Spot

Stepping into Hao’s Kitchen feels like entering a quiet, earnest corner of Merced where the comforting hum of community and family-run warmth blend effortlessly with the inviting aromas of a kitchen lovingly at work. It’s a spot where the pace slows just enough for you to pause and appreciate the familiar, yet thoughtfully crafted, flavors of Chinese cuisine presented with care and a genuine smile.

The atmosphere is understated yet welcoming—part neighborhood gathering place, part humble celebration of tradition. The dining room carries a gentle bustle during peak hours, animated by families and locals who clearly return not just for the food, but for the steady kindness that fills the space and the quiet pride visible in the faces behind the counter. It’s the kind of place where the cheerful exchange between cooks and guests feels like a thread in the fabric of everyday life rather than a polished routine.

On the plate, expect dishes that embrace comfort and familiarity, like the subtle balance of savory and sweet in their orange chicken or the nostalgic satisfaction of chow mein and fried rice dishes made just right. The menu offers the kind of variety that invites sharing—a thoughtful spread where every dish feels crafted to carry the flavors of home, always served with the option to customize sauces on the side, reflecting that quiet understanding of personal taste.

What makes Hao’s Kitchen distinct isn’t just the food, but the feeling of a local favorite quietly becoming a reliable refuge for those who seek real, unpretentious flavors and an atmosphere where friendly service meets sincere hospitality. It’s a spot where the common rhythms of daily life mingle with the deeper joy of a shared meal, made with care and eaten in good company.

Hao’s Kitchen is incredible!! The Chinese food is authentic and truly made with love. It was our first stop on our California trip and we are pleased with our selection. Food and service were fantastic.

Our favorite has always been china cafe. However they sold last March, and it's just not the same. So we are looking for a new place. I googled places in Merced and Atwater and this place stood out. So as our first time trying it we went ahead and ordered the #2 family meal. Our favorite is orange chicken, and it was not on that family meal so we went ahead and added one to our order. The drummets were out of season so they offered a different appetizer. Our order came with, chicken chow mein, pork fried rice, steamed rice shrimp and vegetables, garlic chicken, broccoli beef. I asked for two chow meins and no steamed rice. So she said how about no appetizer and no steam rice, and chicken chow mein no extra charge. I said great!!! We took it home to share with the rest of the family. We loved it! I gotta say the chow mein and broccoli alone were worth the entire meal to me! Everything was tasty!! However the chicken chow mein was by far the best tasting chow mein I've ever had. From Fresno to the bay I can assure you, if you try this place you won't regret it! Flavor burst galore!! The orange chicken was crispy and saucy. I felt it was slightly lacking in flavor. However it could have easily been the over burst of flavors from the broccoli and chow mein before that, it may have thrown me off. I'm telling you!! Yummyness, gooder, and bestest were all words thrown around the table My family and I really enjoyed it and we will be happily returning customers!!!

My husband and I went here one day not knowing if we would like the food but as soon as we started eating we decided this was going to become our soot when we are craving Chinese food. The flavor is so delicious. And the service is also amazing! The older gentleman in the back cooking always has the biggest smile. & the lady in the front is also so welcoming. Parking lot is a bit packed due to the food market that just opened but definitely worth trying! I love their Kung Pao Chicken. It has the perfect spice kick to it!

Great spot for delicious Chinese food takeout. We selected the combinaison plates (C3 and C5) and they were absolutely delicious. The portions are huge. It was delicious but in retrospective we could have gone with only one plate for 2. We had tons of left over for dinner
